ANGELA FADIL Medical Student

I am currently living in Jacksonville, as I am doing most of my rotations here. Since third

year began, Angela has opened her home to me several times, including nights before shelf exams and for two weeks during my anesthesia elective. Each time, she has expected nothing in return despite saving me hundreds of dollars in hotel costs. I am incredibly grateful for her kindness and friendship!

PATRICK HALEY Medical Student

At the beginning of third year, I reached out to Patrick asking for tips on how to set up

Anki. Patrick not only gave me tips but stayed after a lecture to help me set everything up on my computer. He went above and beyond to help me, and I was so appreciative for it!

RYAN NALL, MD

Dr. Ryan Nall gave me the privilege of shadowing him at his clinic and took the time to give insight of what internal medicine looks like as well as answer any questions I had, all the while being very personable, educational, and supportive of me as a relatively clueless MS1 trying to figure out what was going on. It was a great experience and I’m thankful for his mentorship!

MEGAN RIZER Medical Student

Megan Rizer, while on her Internal Medicine rotation, had a patient who was nearing the end of his life. The patient mentioned that he wanted a steak dinner before he died. Megan arranged for and paid for a steak dinner from Outback to be delivered to the patient with all the fixings. The patient enjoyed his steak with enthusiasm. The next day her patient passed on. What Megan did as a resource limited medical student to show love and care to one of her patients is inspiring and although she would be thoroughly embarrassed that anyone else knew about her kind deed, I feel that this is the character that should be recognized and celebrated.

YUEN LEUNG, MD

Dr. Yuen Leung was one of the best student educators I have worked with as a medical student. She demonstrated exemplary, empathetic patient care and set an example I aspire to as a future physician. In one example, she gathered the team to comfort a patient and family who had just received some deeply unfortunate news and spent a generous amount of time providing comfort and information to the patient. Regarding her role as a student educator, she ran me and several residents through an amazing crash course in difficult topics almost every day during my time on the service, spending over an hour a day teaching us how to approach topics like EKGs and how to manage complicated cardiac transplant patients.

SAVANNA GORNISIEWICZ Medical Student

I am currently living in Jacksonville as I am doing most of my rotations there this year. Upon hearing I would be spending some of my OBGYN rotation in Gainesville, Savanna reached out and opened her extra room to me. She moved her office to her bedroom so I could have the room undisturbed during my rotation, and went so far as to rearrange her fridge so I would have an entire shelf to myself. She expected nothing in return even though she was saving me hundreds of dollars. I am extremely thankful for her kindness and friendship!

HALEY FOX Medical Student

I am currently living in Jacksonville as I am doing most of my rotations there this year. Upon hearing I would be doing L&D nights during my OBGYN rotation in Gainesville, Haley reached out so I could stay in her room while she was rotating in Jacksonville. Her roommate was also away during that week, so that gave me their entire apartment to rest during the day undisturbed. She (and her roommate Hannah Lyons) expected nothing in return even though she was saving me hundreds of dollars. I am extremely thankful for her kindness and friendship!

LIAM KUGLER Medical Student

He went out of his way to help us with anatomy and tried to explain things that were confusing us.

OLIVIA TRUMBLE Medical Student

I fell ill while trying to drive home from Jacksonville to Gainesville, had to stop in the middle of nowhere, arrange a ride back to the dorms, leaving my car in the process. Not only did Liv arrange for someone to transport my car back to Jacksonville, but she also waited several hours for the tow truck to arrive and brought me all the necessary supplies I needed to get over my sickness. She is the reason my car did not end up towed/stolen and I didn’t end up in an ER. She has demonstrated this pattern of behavior over and over again, it highlights what an amazing doctor she is becoming.

ISAAC SMITH Medical Student

I am currently living in Jacksonville as I am doing most of my rotations there this year.
Upon hearing I would be spending 2 weeks of my surgery rotation in Gainesville, Isaac reached out and opened his home to me since he was rotating in Jacksonville at the time I would be in Gainesville. Isaac went out of his way to make me feel welcome, and expected nothing in return even though he was saving me hundreds of dollars. I am extremely thankful for his kindness and friendship!

MICHELLE GUASH Admissions/Staff

She’s been really awesome and sweet and has helped me reschedule my coffee chat with Dr. Lynch on multiple occasions.

CHRISTEL GHARBY, Medical Student

Christel has been a great teammate to work with during our first rotation together. I was really struggling to organize my oral presentations, and Christel gave me great feedback and tips on how to improve when I asked for her help. Today, I started working with a new team and was given a complex patient to follow. Thanks to Christel’s advice, I felt much more confident and organized. The resident working with me said he was thoroughly impressed by the presentation and rated it as a 9/10–I really do not think I would have done nearly so well without Christel and am extremely grateful to her!

Jamie Harris, Medical Student

Jamie Harris is the most selfless and thoughtful medical student that I have encountered so far. While I was struggling through a difficult time in Jacksonville, she went out of her way during her busy rotation schedule to make sure that I was emotionally supported and had the resources I needed to move forward. I’m excited to see the physician that she will be in the future and hope to emulate some of her traits during the rest of my medical education journey.

Dr. Zachary Hodges, PGY3 General Surgery

Despite being on call and in the OR overnight, Dr. Hodges never failed to show up to rounds with a personable attitude and spend time teaching and including medical students into the team. He is a tireless worker for his patients, a selfless team player, and I hope to emulate those values in my future career in medicine.
